John R. Armstrong, III is the Senior Fixed Income Strategist and a Portfolio Manager with Burke, Lawton, Brewer & Burke, LLC and BLB&B Advisors, LLC. John's major areas of responsibility are investment management and fixed income credit analysis. John is registered as a General Securities Representative (Series 7), a General Securities Principal (Series 24), and an Investment Advisor Representative (Series 65).
John has over thirty years of experience in structuring, underwriting, and trading securities with particular emphasis on Mid-Atlantic and Northeast issuers. John also has extensive experience in Agency, Corporate and Public Finance as well as ten years experience in Pharmaceutical Industry analysis. Prior to joining Burke Lawton Brewer & Burke, John was a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Walnut Asset Management, LLC where he concentrated on building and managing fixed income portfolios and analyzed the pharmaceutical sector. Earlier in his career, John was a Managing Director of Fixed Income at Pryor, Counts & Co. and Senior Vice President in Finance at Hopper Soliday & Co. (now RBC Dain Raucher).
John is a board member and former treasurer of the Municipal Bond Club of Philadelphia, where, as part of its education committee, he lectures on corporate and public finance. John is currently on the board of directors and is the treasurer of The Stony Lane Club, Gladwyne Pa.
John attended the University of Virginia and holds a B.A. in Economics. He enjoys sailing, distance running and keeping pace with his children.
